What's new Wednesday

Better days

Book in bar Cookies & ice coffee : soo good

In this stressful period of exams/ work/ life it is nice to take a couple of hours to breathe, spend some time elsewhere than in a class room/office/ between the four walls of a room, spend an afternoon out. Make the most of the spring weather.

For me this meant spending my time with one of my favourite friends, wandering around town and stoppinng at BookinBar for an ice coffee and a cookie.

The beautiful weather is making me feel very cheerful and a part from the increase in bees and wasps everything is grand.
Thank you for reading, have an excellent day

How to draw Friday

How I draw: *1
This week I will share with you the steps to this drawing. I hope to turn this particular drawing style/theme into a series, a series bassed on emotions  and the colours I think portrait them.
*1 deals with the feeling of anxiety/stress we all feel at a certain point , I used a mix of red blue and brown to represent such feelings. I hope you like this experiment !

Basic idea of the picture (A4 format)

Outline main feature

Placing the face

Plotting the hair line

Add top & start shade

Time for colour, these are water colour pencils

Add colour to centre near hand & on right hand side
Started with blue, then red and added brown to bring out shadows

Take a small paint brush, lightly dip it water and blend the colours

Final image,
the colours are faded on the photo sorry about that, editing them made the colours seem pink so I left them

March Favorites

March obsessions

March has gone past in a blink of an eye ! I've barley had time to think of my monthly fav's that it's already time to list them !

M83: "Holes in the sky"; "My tears are becoming a sea". There's something mystic about this band, I first heard them in Cloud Atlas and then in the Fault in our Stars with "Wait". I fail to describe how they make me feel, they overwhelm me but not in a negative way, if that makes sense ?

Awolnation: "People," "Jump on my shoulders", "Not your fault": just a nice band to dance along to

James bay: "Hold back the river" acoustic version: A very laid back relaxing type of music (perfect soundtrack when in the bath)

Lisa gardner: Live to tell: A thriller centred around a child psychiatric ward and a series of murders. I spent most of my time telling my roommate how messed up the characters were, but it was still a pretty darn good book.

J.R.R Tolkien, The Hobbit: Master piece

Big eyes: I have already gave my point of view on this film in a previous post, it's just a excellent film as is the other film in this list.

Kingsman: Epic

Video games:
Little big planet 3: It's an adventure/platform game. The game is a bit difficult when playing alone but not as hard on two player mode, however you must have a pretty strong friendship as rage tends to follow the levels.

Rayman Origins: Who doesn't love Rayman, it's an epic game with a great soundtrack and is awesome to play with friends !

Art stuff:
Water paint pencils: I have really been enjoying  water colours, I like adding a touch of colour on black and white drawings.

Lipton: Berry cupcake tea, it's amazing !

Big Eyes

What's new Wednesday: Big eyes review
Source: Google image
As I think you know, I am a huge Tim Burton fan so I was not going to miss this film , so
last sunday I went to the cinema to see big eyes.

The film is based on a true story, dealing with the question of art and copyright in the 1950's. I do not want to say too much in case you haven't seen it, however, if you tend to have trouble with the whole dark/ gloomy atmospher in Tim Burton films, in this one it wasn't as present as it is in other films he has done.

I thought we could sense some of Tim Burton's work in the scenery and the episodes where the artist's work merges into the percepetion of reality. Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are the main protagonists, their duo is at the same time a source of attraction/ emotion and repulsion. Christopher Waltz known for his gripping bad guy roles, portraits the two facettes with brio.

The soundtrack of the film, well there was only one song at it was at a key moment of the film, bringing a higher impact to the scene and Lana Del Reys voice went perfectly with the moment that was filled with tension and fear.

On a whole the film has a happy ending, it deal with various social issues of the 1950's such as womens place in society and art.
I enjoyed the film and I think that seeing it in the original version (english sub french) made the it more enjoyable, if you have the choice between dubbed and original I'd recomend the original version.

Thank you for reading =)
